Domestic Unrest

Feminist Film and Video

Curated by Beth Capper

The films and videos in Domestic Unrest underscore the intersections between regimes of gendered domesticity, feminization, and violence. Whether countering state militarization with a militant feminist address, or rendering everyday life as a sadistic comedy, these works variously register their disquiet with fantasies of “home and hearth.” Bringing works from the 1970s into conversation with contemporary video, this program mounts a collective feminist vision of another future. Featuring works by Carole Roussopoulos & Delphine Seyrig, Leticia Parente, Cynthia Maughan, Pauline Boudry & Renate Lorenz, Margaret Raspé, Chantal Akerman, and Harry Dodge & Stanya Kahn.
